Well, it looks like it is all kicking off around the world with yet more banks and financial houses struggling and looking to governments to help them out. Of course, this does have a knock-on effect to companies in all sorts of sectors. This could be a time of doom and gloom but I have just read Tom Peters blog and he rightly says that whilst this is not a time for humour, he does say that this is when the imaginative ones start to think that “this is when it gets fun”!
I totally agree - now is the time to look at the situation and think outside the box with regards using the resources we have and creating a USP that will not only keep us afloat in these times, but (let’s shoot for the stars here) create new growth for the business.
So, now is the time to get those thinking caps on and take up the challenge to change not only our own business but also the sector and industry in which we work.

I have just read an article in Management Today that small businesses employ the happiest staff. This is an interesting statistic until you read it in more depth. The article states that the TUC ran the study of less than 3,000 UK workers and from this they found that 6million UK workers were not happy at work.
Now call me a cynic, but if you ask 3,000 people, surely the most you can say is that 3,000 of them are not happy. That is unless each of them speaks for 2000 people!!
Grrrr! and there was me being all happy - but it is Friday and so I shall continue to be happy.

I have just read that Aon is up for more M&A’s. Insurance Times informs us that a major use of its annual $1billion cash flow is going to be used in this way. whilst some may say that this means a cutting back on IT jobs due to duplication, it is also quite possible that there will be more IT jobs in the offing as they try to integrate the different systems in the various companies.
I think that this news is inline with the sector. Times online had an article stating that, unlike most other sectors, insurance is a necessity and is now in a position to offer a more stable employment situation than, say, the finance sector. If the insurance moguls understand this, along with the fact that those who invest during recession are the ones most likely to prosper when it ends, then there is every possibility that the IT sector in the insurance industry will be a good place to be.
